Darling Dearest

Darling Dearest. 100 abstractions

Inspired by the abundance of the crowd in the sand, right next to the water and on promenades, Darling Dearest captures this experience into colored lines.

start

With Darling Dearest, Christin Penz publishes her first major NFT series! After many months of work, a 100-part collection of completely computer-generated images was created. 100 abstractions, which all come back to the late summer of 2020: a short break from the Covid19 pandemic, a break to take a deep breath, people enjoying the sun, sea air, and seagulls. So many people on one small island, maybe more than in the big city all year!

Inspired by the abundance of the crowd in the sand, right next to the water and on promenades, Darling Dearest captures this experience into colored lines. Always different, and always the same. Learn more about the creation of the pieces a few section below!

the artwork

The entire collection is available at opensea.io. Below are low-res versions of all 100 tokens. The originals are all 3240×2160 @ 72dpi and part of the opensea.io offer.

behind the scenes

After a series of paper sketches, a longer prototype phase followed in p5js. In order to match the character of a multilayer NFT, Christin introduced a number of parameters and designed them step by step to achieve the visual aesthetics required.

The final characteristics can be reduced to three main aspects: number of colors in the image, coverage of the background and the halo lines (maximum three, spread over the image). Each image can be recreated by using the seed parameter included in the token meta data and leveraging the frozen script (see download).

All titles are handpicked phrases taken from the English version of the
BIP39 mnemonic. In order to recreate the work with the seed parameter, the script can be downloaded and executed with http://editor.p5js.org. In the first line, the value for SEED must be swapped with the actual value (line 1 of script).
